Want to use a MagSafe charger or magnetic car mount with an iPhone 8, iPhone SE or iPhone 16e? You can, with the right case. However, there is an important difference between magnetic attachment and Apple's built-in MagSafe technology. This guide explains exactly what does and does not change.
Do the iPhone 8, SE and 16e have built-in MagSafe?
No. The iPhone 8, iPhone SE (2020 and 2022) and iPhone 16e support Qi wireless charging, but they do not have a built-in magnetic MagSafe ring. The same applies to the iPhone 11 series.

What does a Casify magnetic case add?
A magnetic ring is built into the case. It centres compatible accessories and keeps them attached to the back of your phone. You can use a magnetic car mount, stand, wallet or wireless charger without sticking a separate ring to your device.

Does this turn my iPhone into a native MagSafe iPhone?
The case adds magnetic attachment, but it does not change the charging technology inside the phone. Your device continues to charge according to that iPhone model's Qi capabilities and maximum speed. A case alone cannot add the higher MagSafe charging speeds supported by certain newer iPhones.
In short: magnetic accessories attach and wireless charging works, but the phone does not gain a new charging chip or additional charging power.
What should you check when charging wirelessly?
- Use a suitable power adapter. The adapter helps determine how much power the charger can provide.
- Centre the phone. The ring helps with alignment, but always confirm that charging has started.
- Watch the temperature. Wireless charging can make a phone warmer. iOS automatically reduces charging power if needed.
- Remove thick cards or metal parts. These can interfere with wireless charging.
